B&W or Color

Why is black and white better than color? Black and white photography eliminates the distraction of color, which often gets us looking at the shot a little longer, and looking at different elements as well. Both black and white and color photography can be artistic and emotional.

How is color and black and white photography different?

Black-and-white photographs comprise only highlights, shadows, and the shades of gray between. In contrast, each hue in a color photograph adds an element to the image, which can distract viewers from the subject.

Why do artists use black and white?

From the 15th century onward artists made painted studies in black and white to work through challenges posed by their subjects and compositions. Eliminating color allows artists to concentrate on the way light and shadow fall across the surface of a figure, object or scene before committing to a full-color canvas.
